Ingredients:
- 6 cups peeled and sliced apples
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch. Toss until the apple slices are evenly coated.
- Optional: Sauté the coated apples in a baking dish over medium heat for 5 minutes until they begin to soften, then remove from heat.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Stir in the whole milk and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth.
- Fold in the melted butter until fully incorporated.
- Pour the batter evenly over the apple filling in the baking dish, ensuring the batter sits on top without stirring in the apples.
