Ingredients:

  • 8 medium Granny Smith apples (approx. 3 lbs)
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1.5 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup Mountain Dew or lemon-lime soda

Instructions:

  1. Peel and core each apple.
  2. Unroll the crescent dough and separate it into triangles.
  3. Place one apple at the wide end of each triangle and roll it up tightly.
  4. Place the dumplings seam-side down into a 9x13 inch baking dish, crowding them slightly.
  5. In a microwave-safe bowl, stir together the melted butter, brown sugar, and 1 tsp of cinnamon.
  6. Pour the butter mixture evenly over the top of the wrapped apples.
  7. Slowly pour the citrus soda around the sides of the dumplings, keeping the butter mixture on top.
  8. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 tsp of cinnamon over the entire dish.
  9. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 35–40 minutes until the sauce is bubbling and the pastry is a deep golden mahogany.
