Ingredients:
- 8 medium Granny Smith apples (approx. 3 lbs)
- 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1.5 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 cup Mountain Dew or lemon-lime soda
Instructions:
- Peel and core each apple.
- Unroll the crescent dough and separate it into triangles.
- Place one apple at the wide end of each triangle and roll it up tightly.
- Place the dumplings seam-side down into a 9x13 inch baking dish, crowding them slightly.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, stir together the melted butter, brown sugar, and 1 tsp of cinnamon.
- Pour the butter mixture evenly over the top of the wrapped apples.
- Slowly pour the citrus soda around the sides of the dumplings, keeping the butter mixture on top.
- Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 tsp of cinnamon over the entire dish.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 35–40 minutes until the sauce is bubbling and the pastry is a deep golden mahogany.
