Ingredients:
- 4 cups (600g) peeled and sliced fresh apples
- 1 tsp (2.6g) ground cinnamon
- 2 tbsp (30ml) pure maple syrup
- 1 tbsp (15ml) lemon juice
- 1 box (432g) yellow cake mix
- 1/2 cup (113g) melted unsalted butter
- 1 tsp (5ml) vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, maple syrup, and cinnamon in a large bowl until evenly coated.
- Pour the apple mixture into a 9x13-inch baking dish, spreading the fruit into an even layer.
- Sprinkle the cake mix evenly over the top of the apples and use a spatula to gently level the powder without pressing it down.
- Stir the vanilla extract into the melted butter and pour the mixture slowly over the cake mix, dabbing any dry spots with a spoon.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 40–50 minutes until the edges bubble and the top turns a deep mahogany gold.
